EPF Loans

The EPF Loan from SMIB is granted to any employed individual by pledging as security his/her Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) balance as at the specified date, certified by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka CBSL). Statutory provisions have been made in terms of Employees’ Provident Fund Act No. 15 of 1958 as amended by Act No. 42 of 1988 for the members of the EPF to borrow from the Bank for housing purposes.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Resident, Sri Lankan national
  • The applicant must be a member of the Employee Provident Fund
  • The minimum gross salary/net income should be equal to or more than Rs. 20,000/-
  • Age between 18 – 65

Documents required

  • Duly completed application (Form No 1) obtained by the Labour Office or SMIB
  • Other related documents as requested by the Bank
  • A duplicate of the duly completed application should be forwarded to the Labour Office situated in the district where the land is to be purchased or the house is to be built/renovated etc. (the Labour office will retain a copy and forward the other copy of the application to the Bank)
    This form must include
    – The name and address of the Lending institution
    – Application reference number
    – Name and address of the Labour Office
    – Loan Number, Divisional Secretariat and Labour Office of the area where the property is situated
