The "Muthusina" Minor Savings Account from SMIB is designed to encourage children's saving habits and provide attractive gifts.


Features and Benefits

  • Amazing gift scheme with an attractive interest rate of 5%
  • Initial deposit of Rs. 500/- to start the account
  • Receive gifts based on an account balance up to the age of 13 years
  • Special rewards for the child’s performance at Grade 5 scholarship, G.C.E O/L, and A/L exams.
  • An automatic conversion of the “Muthusina” account to a normal savings account soon after the child turns 18 years old.

Eligibility

  • The account can be opened for children below the age of 18 by a parent or guardian (Sri Lankan citizen) over the age of 18.

**Accounts should be opened for children on or before they reach 13 years old to be eligible for the gift scheme.


Documents required

  • A duly completed application form.
  • Birth Certificate / Passport of the child.
  • National Identity Card /Passport /Driving License or acceptable ID of parent/guardian/benefactor.
  • Copy of a recent utility bill/bank statement to establish residence address.

Special Rewards Scheme

Rewards Scheme – G.C.E O/L and A/L exams

  • Grade 5 scholarship – A sum of LKR 7,500 will be credited to those who obtain over 180 marks for the Grade 5 Scholarship exam. This is valid for all branches. A minimum balance of LKR 15,000 should be maintained for 01 year preceding the Scholarship examination to be eligible for this scholarship.
  • GCE O/L – A Sum of LKR 10,000 for those who have obtained 9 As for the O/L examination will be credited to the account. To be eligible for this scholarship, a minimum balance of LKR 75,000 should be maintained. The minimum balance must be maintained in the account for 02 years preceding the O/L examination.
  • GCE A/L – A Sum of LKR 25,000 will be credited to the account for the best 3 students in each stream for the A/L Examination. This will be given based on the district rank of each district. To be eligible for this, a minimum balance of LKR 100,000 is to be maintained in the account for 02 years preceding the A/L examination.
